Born and raised in New York, I began my career in photography in New York City, and later moved to Washington DC, where I was a staff photographer for a Legislative Branch agency based at the U.S. Capitol Building for almost 30 years.

Throughout my career, I was a dedicated student of photography, especially its history and various movements.  Drawing inspiration from this, and despite the demands of my professional work, I believed deeply in and actively pursued personal work as a form of self-expression and exploration, mostly within the realm of documentary photography.  I believe that documentary photography can be both objective and artistically interpretive.

Although I no longer work full-time, my personal work continues to evolve as I take risks and stretch myself creatively toward a sustained need for personal, creative expression.
